Tells Lazlo he has difficulty handling the crowds of people on the Dauntless. He spent a good deal of time surviving on Hermitage Island alone after being ditched there, and who knows how long traveling alone before that, mentioning that he hadn't spoken to people in a long time. The sudden transition was difficult on him.
Socially awkward, to a degree. He lacks sense in what is proper timing for things, and if he keeps finding no opening, he'll probably just blurt something out the first chance he gets. (See: trying to find a moment in which to thank the ever elusive Ted for his help and eventually just thanking him in the most awkward setting possible: The bath.) He's prone to outbursts when he's joyous, as well, as seen on the island when he's rescued, though this might just be he went a little stir crazy as well.
On the flip side, his manner of speaking can be a bit hesitant and careful when he's placed on the spot, stilted and trailing off as he tries to put words in order.
Quite skilled with a bow. He's got decent stats all around, for the most part and is the fourth fastest character in the game when it comes to attack speed. This means he can get off multiple arrows in one round.
Bizarrely, he is somehow a magical defense tank of epic proportions. He has a magic defense stat second only to Jeane and while he isn't very good at using rune magic from the look of his magic attack stat, with a level 99 natural stat of 200 in magic defense (See linked GameFAQ above) he can take high level spells to the face like a pro and keep going. I have no clue why this is, but maybe he had some sort of training in the past or has simple natural skill at taking a magical hit. ~~Or maybe Konami wanted to make a sick joke about death by rune. Who knows with Konami.~~

it's stated in the Marugoto! book that he and Ted did grow close. He canonically died at age 24 as a result of the Soul Eater's habit of drawing the people close to it's bearer into unfortunate circumstances leading to death, probably shortly after the end of Suikoden IV. Specific cause of that death is unknown, but it was probably messy considering the Soul Eater kills people tragically and horribly.
Assuming his given age is listed as end of game, at the start of the plot of Suikoden IV, he would have been 19. Depending on at what point in the war timeline they recruited Elenor, (After which, Aldo is immediately available for recruitment) however, which is never stated to my knowledge, he might have been older when he was rescued by Lazlo. But he spent at least a few years on that boat fighting with the army, given Suikoden IV lasts 5 years or so.
Very proper when he addresses people, especially those he respects or those in a position of power, regardless of age. He calls Lazlo 'Mr.Lazlo', for example, yet Lazlo is younger then him.

Vaguer bits, built from various cues and hints.

Probably traveled a lot, and maybe with very little rhyme or reason to it. (Because Hermitage is the middle of nowhere, with only a hidden pirate cove nearby.) Aldo's social skills seem a bit rusty and he hints that he's been going it alone for far longer then just the time he was stranded, so it was likely that way for many years.
As for sense in who he traveled with, that varies to a degree. He had been traveling with some sort of traveling party or, more likely given the island, hitching a ride on a ship that ended up dumping him alone on an abandoned island with no supplies. Maybe he stowed away, who knows. Would make sense as to why they ditched him.
Loyal and kind to a fault. Should probably be under facts, but it's more an emotional aspect then anything. He outright joins the war effort simply because he feels he owes Lazlo for saving his life. He swears his service to the guy on the spot for the offer of a boat ride out of the middle of nowhere, stating he always repays his debts. He sticks with the cause in spite of finding the sheer amount of people overwhelming. Likewise, he finds someone to relate to in Ted because of it, and does his best to be a friend and confidant to the rather distant guy. He's amazingly stubborn in his loyalty, sometimes bordering on obnoxiously so, but still an admirable trait nonetheless.
Added to the above, he probably didn't have any regrets. It's stated in letters he left in the comment box for Lazlo that Ted had told him about the Soul Eater late in the game, but that didn't seem to make him hesitate any after the game when he chose to follow Ted. He was aware of the risks he was taking.
